Stephen Colbert, host of The Late Show on CBS, made a series of jokes mocking President Donald Trump on Monday’s show. One of the jokes went, way, way over the line.
During a “comic” monologue, Colbert went on a series of rants that he, and apparently his overwhelmingly liberal audience, thought were hysterical. He fired off: “Sir, you attract more skinheads than free Rogaine. You have more people marching against you than cancer. You talk like a sign language gorilla who got hit in the head.”
Then, Colbert said this: “the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s c*** holster.”
Watch the Colbert monologue on the video below (warning – video contains crude language):
The response to this last repulsive remark, aired live on TV, went too far for many, even liberals.
Following are just some of the responses on social media:
Glenn Greenwald tweeted: “Homophobia for the right cause, with the right targets, is good homophobia, apparently.”
Dana Loesch posted: “If Democrats think this type of stuff helps them, it doesn’t.”
German Lopez tweeted: “Full-on homophobia by Stephen Colbert. Pretty gross.”
On Wednesday’s episode of The Late Show, Colbert acknowledged his error. Sort of.
“While I would do it again, I would change a few words that were cruder than they needed to be. I just want to say for the record, life is short, and anyone who expresses their love for another person, in their own way, is to me, an American hero.”
So Stephen Colbert admitted he stepped over the line from what could be considered funny to what was just plain disgusting. But not really.
What should not be lost in all of this is why Stephen Colbert and other Left-leaning entertainers feel free to keep upping the ante on what is considered tasteful remarks and comedy. If one listens to the audience when Colbert made his Putin c*** holster joke, the audience absolutely erupted with delight.
Colbert, and other lefty comedians like him, are simply riding the wave of what liberals in our society want. And that is a shame.
